Dish Network and Amazon Partnership

DishNetwork.com  said it's made a few deals with Amazon.com.

The Douglas County satellite TV provider (Nasdaq: DISH) announced two Dish deals on Monday morning: The first will allow Dish's Hopper digital video recording set-top box to work directly with Amazon's intelligent personal assistant Alexa. Dish TV is the first provider to offer direct compatibility with Amazon Alexa, the company said.

"We think this is a big step forward for the television experience, and that customers will love this new voice functionality on Dish Services,” said Rob Pulciani, director of Amazon Alexa, in a statement.

The second deal allows Dish's Anywhere app users to connect directly with Amazon Fire TV products.

"This marks the first time customers can use a media player to seamlessly access Dish Anywhere on any TV with an HDMI input, either at home or on the go," Dish said in another statement.
Although the two Monday deal announcements with Amazon may be significant, it's not the deal announcement that some people thought Dish would make with Amazon.

Last week, it was reported that DishNetwork.com was possibly thinking about making a wireless network deal with Amazon, utilizing Dish's wireless internet frequencies.

"Dish is holding unused spectrum holdings worth, by some estimates, more than $45 billion even before the latest FCC auction," the Denver Business Journal's Greg Avery reported in April.
